Avatars « Thread Started on Sept 11, 2008, 2:41am »
Avatars are a way in which members can show their own unique sense of style with a maximum image size of 100x100 pixels. There are MANY options for you to get an avatar on this site, and we’ve taken the pains to show you all of them. So pick and choose which ever option will work best for you.
Selecting a Melted Kettle Exclusive Avatar
On this site we do have exclusive avatars that are strictly to be used for this site. They’re easy to view and choose from and will be added to as time goes on. And if you’re interested in getting one here’s how you will do that:
First click on the Profile link within the menu. You should see your personal profile page. Click on Modify Profile. Now you’re in the section where you can modify and update your profile. Let’s scroll down to the Avatar part of the page. Found just under the box where you enter in a Website link. Just under the website link box you should see a drop down menu showing with the word None. Click on the down arrow to view the list of exclusive avatars and highlight the one you want. You can view them by highlighting and clicking on the option. Once you found the one you wish to use scroll down to the bottom of the page. To keep the avatar click on Modify Profile.
You should then be taken back to your personal profile page and should be able to see that your avatar has changed. If it hasn’t try the refresh button or go to another page where you have recently posted.
To Upload an Avatar
This is a new site feature we offer where you can easily and quickly upload an image from your computer directly to imageshack. It’s not as hard as it sounds and can save time from having to grab your photobucket links or other album links. Here’s how to use this feature:
Like before you first need to click on Profile in the menu. Then click on Modify Profile Scroll down until you see the Avatar part of the page. There you should see a white box that says Avatar Uploader:. Click on Browse and pick the image you wish to use for your avatar from your computer files. Then click on Host It!. You will then see a pop-up come up (or a new browser tab) and you’ll see a lot of different boxes with links to use. Don’t use those links. You will want to click on the + Show Advanced Linking. When you do you’ll see the direct link to your image. Copy the direct link and toggle back to your Modify Profile page. Paste the link into the box just under the Avatar Uploader that is labeled Avatar Url. Once pasted scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Modify Profile.
As before you should be taken back to the profile page and should be able to see your new avatar. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to change the avatar and wish to use it again in the future you will want to save the link into a notepad or you can post it into your User Notes which you and only you can view and reference back on. For info on how to do account notes click HERE.
Using An Offsite Link
The last way of getting an avatar is to use an off site link via a photobucket, imageshack, tinypic, or other image hosting account. We recommend you use images that are in your own personal accounts and not directly hotlink from various sites, as you can lose your avatar image and be unable to recover it.
Click on Profile in the menu. Click on Modify Profile. Get image link from your image hosting account, copy it. Paste link into the box labeled Avatar Url. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click on Modify Profile.
And that’s all there is to getting your own avatar on this site.
To change the size of your avatar from 65x65 you enter in the size you want your avatar to show in the boxes marked Avatar Width: and Avatar Height:. Keep in mind for any avatar that isn’t box shaped you’ll only want to enter in one of the boxes with a size. The maximum avatar size is 100x100.

On our role-playing forums we have selectable canon avatars that you can use to play without having to log out and back into with separate accounts. Not only is it a nice feature, it is very easy to use.
Below are screen shots that pretty much show and explain to you how to use them.
After hiting the Reply (or Sayonce) or the New Topic button. Enter in the character's name and select their name from the drop down menu's list.
Then type in your message and hit "Post Reply"
If you did it right this is pretty much what you will see:
