The C-Box 101 « Thread Started on Dec 29, 2008, 6:30pm »
What's a C-Box? Well that is a question I've heard many members ask over the years. So to answer your questions, a C-Box is a Chat Box that allows you chat in real time. Meaning--You can chat like you can on an instant messager without having to sign-up or download a program.
This is what the C-Box looks like:
And it appears on a few "special" member forums to allow members to get together and chat.
This thread contains help topics about our c-box and how to use it since it IS a separate feature from the site. Should you not find your quesions answered feel free to ask the staff.

Getting Started
The C-Box is easy to use. So easy you'll fall in love with it and find yourself getting lost in it. Especially when there are TONS of people online using it. So first thing's first....
Type in a name Whether you want to use your user name or some random name the point is to type in a name. We do recommend using your main user name so others know who it is they are talking to.
Type in your message To respond to the convo or to give a simple "Hey guys! It's me!" you need to type it into the message box at the bottom of the C-Box. With our C-Box you can either hit the enter button to post your message or you can click on the Go button.
That's pretty much the basics to the C-Box. Told you it was simple. Now let me tell you about the other things you can do in the C-Box....#nosignature#

Getting an Avatar
Getting an avatar is easier than most people think. Just there's only two things to remember.
1- You need a short image link. We're talking really short as in no more than 32 characters long. Since Photobucket albums have ENORMOUS links we recommend downloading your C-Box avatar image to . That's TINYPIC not tinyurl because you need a DIRECT link to the image.
2- C-box avatars are 65x65 in size so DON'T use a wallpaper for your avatar.
When you get your tinypic link (make sure you use the DIRECT link) paste it into the e-mail/url box.
Once you have placed the link into the box you then post your message and should see your avatar in your next post--provided you copied the right link.
Another thing we'd like to recommend, since members don't have to log into the c-box, is to put the link to your C-Box avatar in a safe spot. Either saved in a notepad file on your computer or you can put the link into your user notes via the Modify Profile page.#nosignature#

Other Things to know
There's more features on the C-Box then avatars and below is a list of what else you can do and how to do it.
Smilies
The C-Box smilies are the same smilies we have on the site. The codes to use them are the same as the codes we use on the site. If you don't know the codes you can click on Smilies and pick the smiley you wish to use.
If you plan to use multiple smilies, make sure to hold down the shift button so the page stays open until you are done.
To post the smiley hit enter or click on Go.
Help
The C-Box has it's own Help Topics that offer extra codes you can use and additional information about the C-Box. Below is what you find listed:
Quick Start
Click in the "name" box, and enter a screen name. Click on "message" and type your message. Then hit Enter to post!
BoxCode (BB code)
The following tags are supported:
[b]bold[/b] [i]italics[/i] [u]underline[/u]
Other simple tags following the above format are:
[sup] sup[/sup] [sub] sub[/sub] [s] strikethrough[/s] [center] center[/center] [big] big text[/big] [small] small text[/small] [scroll] move text[/scroll]
Use [br] to create line breaks.
You can change text color:
[color=red]colored text here[/color]
You can post links with: [url=http://address]website link [/url] (Though you can just post the site link directly and it'll change to the word [LINK])
Avatars
To post an avatar image with your messages, first upload your chosen image to the web. You may use an image hosting service or your own webspace. Then paste the URL of the image into the "email / url" box, and post your message.
Privacy
Your IP address is logged when you post and is available to the administrator of this Cbox. For your convenience, your name and selected URL will be stored in a "cookie" on your computer so that they are filled in automatically when you return to this Cbox.
Profile
Profile is used to login to the C-Box. As a member you DON'T need to click on the profile link. This is something that only the staff needs to use. So ignore it unless you're staff and needing to login and out of your staff account.
Users Online
When you click on this link you'll be able to see who is currently logged into or chatting on the C-Box. It also shows lurkers and those not chatting. Quite nice for those of us who have a fear of being alone in the universe--It's a comfort.
Refresh
Clicking on this will refresh the C-Box and show messages that you may have missed do to browser going slow or not recognizing the auto-refresh setting on our main C-Box. (You'll have to use this on the c-box in the rp forum to check for messages.)
And that's about all there is to the C-Box. Should you have any questions by all means Ask the Staff.#nosignature#
